Ask any Filipino adult if they've played Tongits and you'll almost certainly get a yes. It's one of those games that doesn't need an introduction in this country. You've played it in the province during summer vacation, at the apartment on a slow weeknight, at the carinderia counter when business was quiet. Tongits is woven into everyday Filipino life in a way that very few card games anywhere in the world can claim.
SpinPlay's Tongits section brings that familiar game to a 24/7 online platform, with real Filipino players from all over the country — Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao — all at the same virtual table. The rules are the authentic Filipino version, not some modified international variant. The objective is simple: reduce the point value of unmelded cards in your hand by forming valid combinations (melds), and ideally be the first to call "Tongits!" when your hand is empty, or force a draw when the stock pile is exhausted.
Tongits is played by exactly three players using a standard 52-card deck. Each player is dealt 12 cards (the dealer gets 13 as the first draw). Players take turns drawing from the central stock pile and discarding to the discard pile. The goal is to form melds — valid combinations of cards — and reduce the total point value of the cards remaining in your hand.
There are two types of melds in Tongits. A set (called a "sagot" or "set") is three or more cards of the same rank — three 7s, four Kings. A run (called a "sequence") is three or more consecutive cards of the same suit — 5, 6, 7 of hearts, or 9, 10, J, Q of spades. Once you've laid down a meld on the table, other players can "sagot" by adding cards to your existing meld, which reduces their own hand points and denies you the easy win.
A round ends in three possible ways. Tongits — a player empties their entire hand, winning the full pot plus a Tongits bonus. Draw — any player with exposed melds can call a draw when it's their turn; all players compare their total unmelded hand points and the lowest score wins. Burnt — the stock pile runs out; scores are compared automatically and the lowest hand wins. Understanding which ending condition to target based on your hand is where Tongits strategy really lives.
SpinPlay built its Tongits platform specifically for the Philippine market, which means mobile-first design is non-negotiable. The card layout, meld placement buttons, draw/discard controls, and the "Tongits!" and "Draw" call buttons are all sized and positioned for comfortable one-thumb play on a standard smartphone screen. You don't need a desktop setup to play well — most SpinPlay Tongits regulars play exclusively on Android or iOS.
The interface shows each player's meld table clearly, displays their card count and approximate point range, and gives you a real-time pot total so you always know what's at stake. An animated discard pile lets you track what's been played, which is crucial for figuring out whether to complete a meld or hold cards for later. The timer per turn is set fairly — enough time to think, not so long it drags the game out.
Chat is active at all tables, which means the banter is real. Tongits without trash talk isn't really Tongits, and SpinPlay gets that. A simple emoji reaction system lets you express joy, frustration, or "GG lang" without slowing down the game.
Every unmelded card in your hand at the end of a round contributes to your score — and lower is better. Here's how points are counted on SpinPlay:
SpinPlay automatically calculates your total hand points so you always know your standing in a Draw or Burnt scenario.
SpinPlay runs a structured Tongits tournament calendar that gives both casual and competitive players regular opportunities to compete for real prize money. The biggest event is the Tongits Weekend War, held every Saturday evening with a ₱80,000 guaranteed prize pool. Entry is ₱100 to ₱500 depending on the tier you register for, and the top 20% of finishers receive payouts.
Daily tournaments run from 9 AM to 11 PM, with prize pools ranging from ₱5,000 to ₱20,000 depending on the registration turnout. Satellite tournaments — lower buy-in events where the prize is a seat at the Weekend War — run every Thursday and Friday for players who want to build up to the big event without the full entry fee.
SpinPlay also runs special Tongits events tied to major Philippine holidays and payday weekends — expect enhanced prize pools on long weekends and the 15th/30th of each month. Tournament registration is open through the SpinPlay lobby and can be done on mobile right up until the tournament kicks off.

All valid melds in Tongits consist of either matched sets or sequential runs. Here's how each one works.
Three cards of the same rank. The most common meld and a good way to clear high-value cards fast.
All four cards of the same rank. Rare and powerful — eliminates 40 points in one move if you're holding four Kings.
Three or more consecutive cards of the same suit. Runs can be extended by other players adding to your laid meld.
A run of 4 or more cards. Clears a big chunk of your hand in one declaration — great for setting up a Tongits call.
These aren't textbook tactics — they're the real patterns that experienced Filipino Tongits players use.
Kings, Queens, and Jacks are 10 points each. If you can't form a meld with them quickly, get rid of them before opponents call a Draw and you're stuck holding 30+ penalty points.
If Player 2 discards two 8s, they're unlikely to complete a set of 8s — meaning it's safer for you to hold your 8 if it's part of a run. Reading discards is the difference between average and strong play.
Calling Draw when you have 8 points might feel safe, but a patient opponent might have 4 points already and just be waiting for you to pull the trigger. Only call Draw when you're confident your total is the lowest at the table.
Adding a card to an opponent's meld (sagot) reduces your own hand points, but it also prevents them from calling Tongits immediately. Use it tactically when you see an opponent getting close to an empty hand.
SpinPlay shows the remaining stock count. When there are fewer than 10 cards left, start positioning for a Burnt ending rather than chasing a Tongits call — because the round will end automatically soon regardless.

"Tongits talaga yung game na palagi kaming nagagawan ng oras — dati sa bahay, ngayon sa SpinPlay. Yung interface na drag-and-drop para sa melds super intuitive, kahit sa maliit na screen ng phone ko. Nanalo ako ng ₱14,000 sa Weekend War last month — GCash agad kinabukasan."
"The Standard Room on SpinPlay is genuinely competitive — you're playing against real tongeros, not bots with obvious patterns. I play mostly late nights after work and there's always a full table waiting. The discard tracking feature is super useful for reading opponents' hands."
